Design House Stockholm goes to Boda June 18JUNE 11, 2011 |
| On June 18, Design House Stockholm is going to Småland! Join us for the opening party of The Cultural Revolution in Boda - our new glassware studio Vet Hut, our new OPEN store, and The Glass Factory: Sweden's largest glass museum.
Excerpt from the folder "Cultural Revolution in Boda" (download it at the bottom of this page): Dear Reader You might think that what you're holding in your hand is an ordinary magazine, or some political pamphlet. But this is a fairy tale, full of stories of heroes and heroines. Together, they create something totally unique in Swedish cultural history. This fairy tale is about Boda, a place deep in the forests of Småland. Right now, there is a cultural revolution going on here, where experiences, creativity and multi-disciplinary collaboration are taking centre stage. Boda is one of the best-known places in the Swedish 'Kingdom of Crystal'. It was here that the art glass revolution began in 1953, among legends like Erik Höglund, Monica Backström, Signe Persson-Melin, Rolf Sinnemark, and more. Now it's happening again! On the 18th of June 2011, a new centre for glass and design will open: a museum called The Glass Factory, a design market hall called OPEN, and the glassware studio Vet Hut. Emmaboda Municipality and Design House Stockholm have joined forces to make it happen. At the time of writing, nothing is finished. The furnace is just being installed in the glassworks, the paint on the walls is still wet, and the 30 000 pieces of glassware that make up this cultural treasure trove are all still in their boxes. Our heroes are still working day and night to get everything ready by the 18th of June. We took Petter and Olivia, our writer and photographer, to the deep forests of Småland while construction of the new Boda was underway to meet the people who, together, are making this possible.
