Family Chairs and Twist Table |

Family Chairs by Lina Nordqvist, and Twist Table by Philip Edis, are now available in stores. Family Chairs won the Accent on Design Award 2009 in New York earlier this month. TWIST TABLE BY PHILIP EDIS Both a table and a shelf. A futuristic shape with a maximalistic attitude, allowing maximal storage space on minimal floor space. Just rotate the planes and let Twist Table expand or contract, like a multi-storey table in front of the sofa or additional shelving by the wall. Philip Edis found his inspiration for a simple and space-saving device in the circus: 
“I was entranced by a clown spinning several
hula hoops when I was a child. With Twist Table I want to transmute that beautiful
movement into a single, yet adjustable image.”
A lot of work has gone into creating a perfect and tight fit between the cylindrical segments of the planes and the axis. The two intermediate shelves of the Twist Table pivot around the axis, which allows for more or less space according to your needs.
FAMILY CHAIRS BY LINA NORDQVIST Not every chair is created equal. Especially not Family Chairs by Lina Nordqvist, a foursome of traditional Swedish stickback chairs. Separately they present themselves as individuals, unique chairs aspiring to be something more than just pieces of furniture. Together they form a boisterous family, with each one displaying a distinctive character. Even the horizontal spindles between the chair legs play their part in the game. “I’m fascinated by objects, and I like it when they have their own special individuality, something beyond mere technical function. That’s why I decided on a graduation project at Beckmans College of Design in which I transformed something well-known and traditional into something unexpected.” It’s no surprise that Lina Nordqvist’s Family Chairs seem to be made for the stage: she has already pursued a career as a professional set designer in the Swedish film industry for several years. Family Chairs are available in natural wood and in a black-lacquered version.
